Planting II

This has been a busy week in the garden. Students and teachers from four classes have participated in planting: kindergarten, Mrs B.Rogers; grade 2, Mrs V.Crump; grade 5, Mrs M.Vander Linden; grade 5, Mr. J.Chambers.

Kindergarten planted bush beans and cucumber seedlings.

Grade 2 planted corn seedlings in a "Three Sisters" configuration. Pole beans and squash will be planted later when the corn is four inches high.

Planting I

Over the last two weeks, students have come to the garden with their teachers and planted seedlings and seeds in the garden beds. The participating classes were: grade 1, Mrs J.Baer; grade 3, Mrs M.Rizer; and kindergarten, Mrs D.Vogt. Seeds and seedlings were provided by parent of students and by Mr E.Sandy and Mrs B.Sandy.

Constructing Raised Beds

The first garden workday was held on April 21. Eleven volunteers excavated the area for two garden beds, moved concrete block, cut chicken wire and plastic sheet, moved compost, stacked block and filled the two beds with a mixture of dirt and compost.
