Yesterday Mr. Chambers' and Mrs Vander Linden's grade 5 students came to the garden just before noon and planted corn and tomato seedlings that had been donated the day before by Green Thumb Nursery in Ventura. Mr Sandy showed students how and where to dig the hole, how to remove the plant from the plastic container and how to place the root ball in the hole and cover it with dirt. The students took turns using the trowels to dig the holes and plant their seedlings. After all seedlings were planted, students watered the garden bed.

While students were waiting for their turn to plant and also after planting, Mrs. Sandy introduced the students to the other plants growing in the garden and cautioned students about knowing what parts of plants were edible before attempting to eat them.
